Neuromuscular Disorder Treatment
The TDN service is accredited by SUS to be applied in the treatment of respiratory complications, which occur in patients with neuromuscular disorders.
The group of diseases with free access to the treatment include: Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy, waist-limb dystrophy, facioscapulohumeral dystrophy, Steinert myotonic dystrophy, spinal amyotrophy, congenital myopathies, mitochondrial diseases, myasthenia gravis, post-poliomyelitis syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hereditary motor and sensor neuropathy.
The medical and physiotherapeutic treatment is directed to the respiratory symptoms and involves the following procedures:
-respiratory evaluation: spirometry, measuring the maximum, flow peak and cough flow peak respiratory pressures;
-application and orientation of specific respiratory exercise techniques (air stacking, glossopharyngeal breathing) and bronchial hygienic maneuvers, with the aid of Ambu bag and other devices, such as the cough-assist;
-installation of noninvasive mechanical ventilation device (VMNI)-BIPAP;
-periodical clinical follow up, by means of medical and physiotherapeutic consultations, besides monthly house calls.
